Mechanical engineering combines subjects from mathematics, physics and chemistry. Aspects taught during the program include heat and flow, mechanics and dynamics, the control of machines and systems, and properties of materials. But as an aspiring mechanical engineer, you need to have more than technical knowledge alone. Later a mechanical engineer will often be at the centre of a project team of specialists from different disciplines. That’s why a lot of attention is given to the social and communication aspects of the students’ development. As well as creativity and innovative abilities, mechanical engineers are also expected to be able to work well in teams.
